Various epidemics,spread around swiftly due to the misusage of the environment has become a major issue today.Dengue,which is rising its head rapidly,has already taken thousands of valuable lives away.More than 10,000 dengue patients are recored in Sri Lanka in a year.Dengue is spread by a virus,carried by a kind of mosquitoes.Dengue mosquitoes breed in stagnant Water.Even a water collected leaf is sufficient for it to breed,which makes dengue mosquitoes spread rapidly.If not treated properly dengue can be fatal.
The major reason for the spread of dengue is human activities such as improper disposal of garbage,not keeping the surrounding clean etc.Thrown away coconut shells,plastic containers and tyres are some of the best places for dengue mosquitoes to bread.
Every citizen of the country has a responsibility towards preventing dengue.simply by keeping the surrounding free of breeding places by cleaning the area regularly,we can contribute in preventing dengue in our area.We should keep the home gardens clear by trimming bushes and keeping it free from weeds.Even the ponds and drains should be cleaned regularly.We can get rid of coconut shells and other water collecting stuff by burying them so that water does not get collected during rainy seasons.We can promote the importance of preventing dengue by conducting awareness programmes and compaigns in the area.Constant supervision on your surrounding will keep the area clean and free from mosquitoes.
So it is our responsibility to protect our beloved ones from this disaster which has become a major problem in our country. As prevention is better than cure, we should get the necessary steps and contribute in preventing dengus and thereby saving thousands of valuable lives.
